Two Dogs I made my first trip to the Southwest in the 80's - by accident. I was supposed to be driving to Ohio and somehow ended up in El Paso. I tried to find my way back and found myself in Colorado (I swear I had nothing to drink). Then, I got on the road again and ended up in Santa Fe. I hated it. It seemed like Knott's Berry Farm for adults, all these Texas people dressed in costume. But I went back to New Mexico the following year and it was much different for me. I got to talk to people, I walked and walked, I ate elk. I even met a wonderful soul who wanted to buy my dog and feed him bear meat. I saw where people lived. I always love when I'm invited to join in dance. Culture is as deep as the center of the earth. And I am fortunate to have witnessed what I have, participated in things I never thought I would've and have this tiny little mica window where I see partially, from the outside - in.
