In 1775, in a forgotten place, a white man was adopted and accepted in the Shawnee tribe near present day Detroit. The chief, Blackfish, is said:
" My son, you are now flesh of our flesh and bone of our bone. By the ceremony which was performed this day, every drop of white blood was washed from your veins, you were taken into the Shawnee nation and initiated into a warlike tribe, you were adopted into a great family, and now received in the place of a great man (a dead son). You are now one of us by an old strong law and custom. My son, you have nothing to fear, we are now under the same obligation to love, support and defend you that we are to love and defend one another. Therefore, you are to consider yourself one of our people."
The man adopted in that place, long ago, was and still is Daniel Boone.
A Shawnee, by 'ceremony' and by 'law and custom'.
With obligation to, 'love, support and defend' one another.

`That is a very interesting story, and it shows the "racial" opennes of the Shawnee people.
I am wondering what the particularities of that case were though. I have some questions regarding both the "law and custom" and the relationship of Daniel Boone with the Shawnee people.
Did he live with the SHawneee for a long time before this happened? Did he speak their language, understand and follow their customs and their ways?
About the Shawnee law : Was it that a "spot" in the tribe was created, due to the death of the son of chief Blackfish, and therefore since a spot for a Shawnee tribesman was clear, then Daniel Boone could take it?
Are there other similar stories?
I am wondering, the white women that ended up living in the tribes, where they ever given full priviledges and accepted as full members of the tribes?
Would like to know more on that, who ever wants to contribute in the discussion, will be very appreciated. Thank you very much!
