That's interesting, my mother told me she received her name, "Tatewin" (Wind Woman), during a ceremony too. When I was born, my grandma gave me my Lakota name "Mato" which means "Bear" in English. Though people just started calling me Bear because when people called me Mato, they would always say "My toe". She gave me my name because the way I was hugging my moms boob, like baby bear cub. I am sure I would receive an "official" "Indian name" during a ceremony too.
