I am writing a story about cultural identity, centered around Cherokee characters. I wanted to hear as many perspectives, stories, and people on the subject of cultural identity. How do you feel about being Cherokee?
I would be really interested in hearing about your personal views on your identity, along with what you do as a profession, how you get along with your family, what religion if any you profess, etc. How do these aspects of your life affect your identity, and vice versa? Basically, tell me about yourself!
Thank you!

`Sadly this thread has truth and also forgotten issues and people, which are that there are real Cherokees, and many more who are not of that Tribal Nation. To poke fun at another Tribal People should not be the focus, it should be that we as real natives, watch as other tribal people are falling through the Federal Recognition, when their numbers dwindle, and they are not Longer a Tribe.
Know many Tribal People have gone the Way of The Wind, with some still clinging to what they have left and watch as their Blood lines get thinned out and mixed.
That mixing also takes place even if they marry another Tribal Person, since most Tribal Administrations do not recognize another Tribal Blood. You just get fractionated down with your Father's and your Mother's Blood.
That is why now many tribal Nations are lowering their "Blood Quantum" to 1/4 and even down to 1/16, which is sad, since it used to be 1/2 Blood Quantum to be in our Tribe.
Getting to the real issue is that as Native People, those of us who have Our Cultures, Our Language, and Our Elders, should not be be told from any government who belongs to Our People.
The Sadness of this Quantum, is that We as Native People are the only Humans in the World to be required to be Documented with Our Blood.. Other Creatures, are Pedigree Horses, Dogs and Cats, etc......

`no--all are not Cherokee. I am Chickahominy from Virginia--direct tribal descendant of th Powhatan nations. You know...Pocahontas, John Smith. Though most think Virginia and North Carolina is all Cherokee there are a lot of tribes no one has really become familiar with. We Chickahominy--of the coarse pounded corn people--just became state recognized in the nineties--still not federally acknowledged. And all this time I thought I was a real person (being funny--but NOT funny). We Chickahominy are the ones who captured Captain John Smith---gave him to Powhatan---Pocahontas saved his butt--Smith took her to England--she's still there. Silly girl! Wonder how well she was received in England.
