Growing up, my family was always divided on religion. Around where I grew up, you either belonged to a church, or believed in a Christian God. There was no other way. Especially in my family. If your God had any other name than God, you were a heathen, and needed to save your soul. This always scared me. Even when I was very young I always felt that I was different in that I never really followed what was taught in church. I remember being told that I was bad, and tried really hard to be a good "Christian", because being threatened with "burning in hell for eternity" scares the crap out of little kids. Regardless, I still found myself drawn to the old ways, and feeling very comfortable in my beliefs. I am still the only one in the small part of my family that I actually know that shares these beliefs. Everyone else is Christian...or not very religious at all. I've often wondered...could it be something in my blood that calls to me to practice the old ways? Or is it somethiing else. Both of my grandmothers were Cherokee, but one was Christian, who still practiced a few things at home, especially healing when any one of us were sick. My other grandmother followed the old ways until she died. I was 8 or 9 then, I think. What do you think makes us who we are?

`I have a similar experience, do you mind if I share my thoughts on it?
Maybe the feeling your having of following your own spiritual path is just for you to explore...if your family isn't ready you might try to understand their fear made them try to "straighten you out". If you look at their story with compassion you'll be more able to move on spiritually for yourself.
Keep looking for answers though, with an open heart!

`good luck on finding your spiritual oneness...its a personal journey that you need no approval for and will find it in your own time and space. trust that.

`Both.
Your genes are the 'tools in your toolbox', your enviroment decides what you do with those tools.
