Dear Mr. President
Thank you for helping my neighbors with their mortgage payments.
You know the ones down the street who in the good times refinanced their
house several times and bought SUV's, ATV's, RV"s, a pool, a big screen,
two Wave Runners and a Harley. But I was wondering, since I am paying my
mortgage and theirs, could you arrange for me to borrow the Harley now and then?

P.S. They also need help with their credit cards, when do you want
me to start making those payments?

P.P.S. I almost forgot - they didn't file their income tax
return this year. Should I go ahead and file for them or will you be
appointing them to cabinet posts?

Sincerely, N.W.A.A.

The General Services Administration will buy 17,600 new fuel-efficient American cars for the government fleet in the next two months using economic stimulus funds, President Obama announced on Thursday.

Obama directed GSA on March 30 to expedite the previously planned purchase of the vehicles to help struggling U.S. auto companies. The administration said on Thursday that GSA has "moved faster than any time in history" to ensure that $285 million in stimulus funds is spent to buy the vehicles by June 1 from General Motors, Chrysler and Ford through existing contracts.

"This is only a first step, but I will continue to ensure that we are working to support the American auto industry during this difficult period of restructuring," Obama said.

The spending spree will include the purchase of 2,500 hybrid sedans, to be ordered by April 15. The order will be the largest one-time purchase of hybrid vehicles for the federal government in history.

The administration says the new fleet of government vehicles also will save taxpayers money and benefit the environment. Each vehicle purchased by GSA under this effort must have a higher miles-per-gallon rating than the vehicle it replaces, with an overall goal of at least a 10 percent increase in fuel efficiency for the entire procurement.

According to the administration, swapping out less fuel efficient federal vehicles with new greener ones will reduce gasoline consumption by 1.3 million gallons annually and prevent 26 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

GSA also will direct $15 million toward a pilot program involving advanced technology vehicles, such as compressed natural gas and hybrid buses. The orders for that procurement will be placed by Sept. 30..

FOR THOSE OF US WHO PAY TAXES,NOTHING LIKE THROWING OUR MONEY AROUND. I WONDER IF IN HIS STIMULUS PLAN I CAN GET A NEW CAR TOO!!!

`I don't mind paying my "fair share" (i suppose), but this is ridiculous the last about 6 weeks. I am really looking at getting a different job that pays just a little less (and has more sane hours anyway) to put myself in a lower tax bracket. I figured it out and I would actually be bringing home more money..any bit helps. I work hard! I dont rely on relatives or the state, thier "father" gets by not paying a dime toward the upbringing of (my) children...and I feel like I am being penalized for working hard. I would like to do something..like buy my son the toy truck he had his eye on for a couple of weeks. But after this today--I've just had it. ..noticed the price of gas is creeping up for another go 'round of summer price gouging, and Natural gas here went up another 30% as well this winter while thier cost on oil is down so I hope Exxon enjoys another year of record breaking profits. Hey maybe they will donate some toy trucks for "underprivleged" kids(you know, the kids with parents who have to WORK for a living!)... they can get a tax write off after all so it's not like it will cost them anything. the a**holes.

`p/s: excuse my angst here to any who read this. Not attempting to spread bad feelings here... but I don't have credit cards. ALL I have has been paid for with cash for as long as I can remember. I dont finance vehicles or a house, ect..I haven't asked the State for anything since I put myself through school years ago. And my children and I live simple lives just so that I dont pay things with a boatload of interest and a ton of monthly bills... and now I see it not making a difference ..and I dont like paying for others mistakes. I have made so many of my own that I was held accountable for- as it SHOULD be. I own my responsibility in that..just like I own my old truck.
So that will be the end of my political soapbox and hang me if you will...but have a good night all.

You already are in higher interest rates on your own cards and hidden fees.

I hope you aren't invested in the stock market with all your eggs in one basket, ouch!
