`Just my two cents. I pray with the pipe. I do not consider myself a smoker tho. Tobacco used in a sacred fashion is different than commercial cigs... but that is my take on it.. so I guess I should change my profile LOL

A pipe carrier doesn't inhale smoke, at least thats how I was taught. There was never a need to inhale as it never used to be addictive in it's natural unchanged state. Tobacco today has been influenced by a different strand of genetically altered plants from tobacco companies plants getting into the population within nature.

Sounds like you are on track. The peoples pipe was given for prayer.

I guess I just had to put in the part about not abusing the tobacco. When someone smokes tobacco(inhales) it tends to be for relaxation or for enjoyment. Neither are the reason your smoking that pipe, your smoking it for the people. One might enjoy the fact or be relaxed by praying with the pipe but it would be better if those weren't reasons to innitiaite that smoking of the pipe.

`You don't have to smoke pipe in order to be spiritual and apart of your culture. I don't smoke. I think that is a very masculine aspect of prayer. I do carry cigs to offer tobacco if I see a dead animal on the road or a lightening struck tree but that is the extent of my tobacco use. I find other ways to spiritually entertain myself. I just don't see the attraction in a 21 year old pretty faced girl inhaling smoke and looking sick. Haha.

I wish that I COULD bring myself to it... I have tried.... it isn't for me. I have found other ways to connect myself with the great mother and father.

I may have mispoken myself and appologizes for it. I don't see it attractive on ME... I have seen some very beautiful women smoke and had no problem. You have to understand what the symbolism of smoking pipe is before making a judgement.

I sensed a little negative aspect upon reading, I really tried not to word anything that would lead to that as I mentioned how I was taught upon the words I used.

I've always thought it was a universal thought that the pipe is there for the people. I guess anything beyond that and it differs upon teachings. I prefer not to go into detail as it's really not something you discuss on a forum. I will say though that three of my aunts, my mom, and my grandma are all pipe carriers. My mom has been on the red road since she was 13 years old.

Ok raven you were right. All the talk about spiritual stuff seemed to hint that he wouldn't of been including a pipe but it seems he is. He can deny it but he didn't thus far and this statement leaves me to conclude that you were right Raven.

`john, i appologize for making it seem that I have negative views concerning my culture and their spiritual paths. That was not my intention and I definitely mispoke myself. You could say that this aspect of the spiritual connection between the people and the spirits bring shame on me due to the lack of ability to smoke. It is possible that because I have had a hard time with it that I created a reason as to why I don't smoke pipe. Even my mentor says that refusing the pipe is refusing my whole culture. I make light of it because I try and not fret and in doing so I unintentionally insulted some people.

As for the white man... you should really look past the scent and see what pipe smoking represents and appreciate it for the symbolism.
