Hey. I need to find out what Native American tribe thinks, or thought in the past, that redheads are bad luck. I'm writing a story. Please help.

Well, I think it's 556 recognized tribal reservations, not sure how many Tribes. I couldn't imagine a Tribe as a whole looking upon someone as bad luck just because of the way the creator made them. You seem to think that there was a Tribe that believed this but don't know what Tribe. This leads me to conclude that your asking because of a rumor you've heard. I'd have to say the rumor you heard was false, perhaps I'm wrong but I believe it probably is.

`In european history "redheads" where also bad luck. In the middle ages "redheads" were often considered witches, and were more often arrested and found guilty of witchcraft than other women. So redheads found a violent death.

I guess this red hair mystery carried over into the modern world.

Considering european history I wouldn't doubt for a moment that this is true about red heads in european society. Although I'm not sure what this guy means when he said "it carried over into the modern world", I'm almost thinking he's calling turtle island and it's orignal people "the modern world".

If you know anything about Natives then you would know that all Native tribes hold similiar views of the world. One major one is the viewing of all things as related. Some Tribes may believe in bad luck but I couldn't imagine them permanently labeling a person as bad luck because of the way the creator made them. Now certain signs that come within nature momentarily might be equivicated to bad luck though, maybe something a person does, never the way a person is brought into this world though.

I was taught that people born crippled or -------- are to be highly respected, their rareness makes them unique, they are the way they are for a reason, they teach us a lot about life.

I did not intend anything with this sentence. Just a fact, that I read in books about the middle ages, it often stated that redheads are considered witches or that they teamed up with the devil.

When I said, that carried into the modern world, I meant, that people today heard about it and sometimes (maybe) joke about it.

The same way that sometimes we tell "blonde" jokes. (And I am considered a dark blond).

In the end: There is no bad luck in any person, haircolor or ...figure or whatever .... people during the middle ages they just did not know it better.

`Every culture interprets things differently..just as we in western society associate black with death..in Chinese society...white is the color of death...in Celtic mythology Cuchulainn was a semi-divine hero whose red hair signified descent from the sun god.

`While here is something to add, I am a redhead. But I have native american in me from a family member on my dad side. Wow, now I know discrimination against beginning a redhead and being called a witch, when that isn't part of my belief because I believe in everything because belief means that your have love for all and don't judge when you don't know where the person is coming from or where they have been. I might as while be a alien from outer space. Now this is why I love animals because they have a heart of pure love. Oh and by the way I have never heard of redheads being called witch's (intill the modern world started saying this) and killed in any history books or any books in general I did heard that they started killing because of two girls who were gived some herb that had bad side effects and made them crazy. Wow and I can't believe redheads being labeled as bad luck and evil, that is like labeling everyone with big mouths bad luck and evil. While I don't think that Indian romance is going to go so while because NO men like redheads or I wouldn't be on this site.

What if you're not a natural red head? You paid 10.00 for a box of peroxide, and bought some bad luck? There is no such thing as luck! Good or Bad. Our path is paved with our own actions. If you have bad luck, it's because you surround yourself with that which is bad.

Question, RavenWoman, are Indian Romances a no no? I read mostly spiritual and historical, but I do enjoy a juicy romance once in a while. Just wondering.

I completely agree. I was just goofing off. The whole post got a bit serious and thought I could lighten it up a bit.

It was an odd question to ask and it would make sense that you thought of the Indian Romance novel. But real authors do research. Even romance novelist. LOL They would know that NA culture is not based on European myths.

However, she may be referring to the NA story of the Red-Headed Kiowa. The Texan raised from childhood as a Kiowa and was sometimes taunted by and fought with his Kiowa brothers because he lost a herd of horses that could not be retrieved because of their closeness to the Blue Coats. Maybe, probably not.
