Hey hey

I'd like to introduce my self.
I'm from Norway, and I joined this forum because I love learning about other cultures. I'm also looking for friendship.

`How are you doing? Me, I am working on my tan. Right now, I am two-toned and I look like a siamese cat. So I am trying to get everything to be the same tone :)

So .... sometime back in the early 1800s in Lakota country, there was these two Swedish cowboys who were wandering around in the prairie and chasing after tumbleweeds, ever so happily. What these two Swedish cowboys were doing out there by themselves is beyond me. Maybe they were looking for Brokeback Mountain or something like that.

Anywho... neither Swedish cowboy knew how to hunt wild game, but they were both pretty good at hunting tumbleweeds, though.

Well pretty soon they were getting hungry. One day as they were prancing after some tumbleweeds, they noticed some smoke in the sky. So they went in the direction of the smoke.

Soon they found a Lakota camp, and they noticed an old woman at the end of the camp. And she was putting some "thing" into a soup kettle, that was over a fire. So they waited until the old Lakota woman went back inside her tipi. Then they ran over to her soup kettle and with a stick, they picked up the thing that was inside the kettle, and ran away as fast as they could with their "prize".

A little while later, the old Lakota woman came out of her tipi with a big chunk of buffalo meat that she intended to make soup with. When she looked inside her soup kettle she noticed something was missing. So she screamed really loudly, "HEY!! WHO STOLE MY ANIMAL FAT!!! I WAS GOING TO FLAVOR MY SOUP WITH THAT!!"

So everyone ran over to her, and then someone noticed two guys in the distance running away. And one guy was holding something up in the air with a big stick. And they realized that these two running guys must be the lucky ones who managed to "capture" the old woman's animal fat. So they all started laughing.

These Swedish cowboys thought that they were so lucky to have stolen a piece of buffalo meat from some "wild injuns". But their "prize" was nothing more than a big piece of animal fat.

In the Lakota language, the word "wasin" means "animal fat". And the Lakota word "icu", means "to take". When you combine both words, it becomes "wasicu", which means "takes the fat". And thanks to these two Swedish prancing cowboys, that is how the word for "white people" was created.

The End

`Oh I gave up on the tan. I kept falling asleep, and kept getting darker on one side. Then the other side, then the other side. I just got fed up because I like Siamese cats :)
