Well Miss Lily, the 12 zodiac constellations are not part of most Native beliefs. For example, in Lakota Star Knowledge, we observe different constellations that are based on very old stories. For example, when a star is at a certain position, this means something. Sometimes, a location on the earth is represented in a star constellation. So when the sun's path goes through that constellation, that might mean that we have to be at that location on the earth to do a certain ceremony. Also, in Lakota Star Knowledge, the soul's journey has something to do with stars. Star knowledge means different things to different cultures. And the Lakota Star constellations are not the same as the 12 zodiac constellations. :)

I know two people who were born just 2 minutes apart from each other at the same hospital. Even though their charts would be basically the same thing, they are almost the opposite of each other. But parenting plays a very important role, too. So child had really healthy emotional parenting, and the other grew up in a house where it was not so healthy. And children think, even subconsciously, that a lot of what they see as children is normal. A chart is good for a guide and I know they are not to be used in a fatalistic way.

`I know there is a lot of information out there that states how many cultures used the zodiac constellations. But I do not like those programs because they try to influence the viewer to think that ALL cultures in this world observed the same exact constellations. And in my opinion, that is paternalistic to make those kind of statements. In most of these programs, they never really mention anything about Native cultures and beliefs. But even then, those who agree with those kind of books or movies or programs automatically think that Natives used those constellations, too.

In Reality, a lot of tribes had their own star constellations, and they all have special meanings that are not the same as other tribes. It's like this: Sometimes two people might see the same thing, but it will have different meanings to each of them. So even though the image was the same, the experience is different for each, like what that "lakota" guy stated in his post.

For example, there are constellations where when a soul passes through that area, that soul will receive certain medicinal energy it will need concerning the gender of that baby it will enter. This is just one of many examples that shows how ancient Native people perceived the stars in a different way than what the astrology suggests.

But I also know that most people observe "real" astrology incorrectly, too, as "real" astrology is more like a guide to show certain things that can be changed. And this is where most people make the mistake because they are fatalistic and refuse to take responsibility to change their lives for the better.

`The reason I do not like those programs is because they do not consider that Native peoples observe different star constellations. Instead, these programs try to make it look like all people all over the world believe in the same zodiac constellations and that is not true.
