` I have known long beofre you were birn that nothing is free. I was working when Carter was in Office. The reality of what the Great White Father, oops i mean the Chief, oops I mean The president, dang what do i call him......? anyway the realy of Our Economy and What the Goverment is doing with these Bills (?) are scary and the people that think Obama will be a Great President are jumping the gyn and listening to his promises. After years of seeing broken promises, waiting for the Black Hills to be given back to the Sioux, and Our President to Pardon Leonard Peltier, i have decided to take a wait and see position. I don't like what is happening based on the Goverment's Policy's, but i am just another native voice, and a woman to boot. I will see what Obama does, and i promise that given a chance to vote, next election, I won't vote for him, if he continues down the path that he is going.I Hope i didn't offend anyone but we are all intitled to our opinione, and as adults, we should stand in unity for the great good of our Country, regardless of our own personal opinions.

You don´t have to be Native to have native spirit. But you need a heart to be able to feel. And Natives are not stupid or blind or just sitting on their --- to let white people fight their fight. It is said " strong emotions create strong memories".. and Native people have reason enough to remind their"strong memories". Busy thoughts and activities are not "Native" and this earth is not "Tarot-wonder-world" it´s an earth ruined by money interests and they are white!

`I do not follow any "president" blindly . I do not fall for all the smoke and mirrors that were presented in this election. Common sense tells me spending more money on bad programs will not get this country going again.
Maybe our so called leaders need a drastic pay cut or maybe no pay at all most are millionaires anyway.
If the president was so concerned about our economy why would he spend one hundred and forty million dollars on his extravagant shindig.
Why is he going to spent $100000 to redecorate the white house?? Hope it is not done up in black and chrome..

Then this asinine remark about "white people doing our job for us" was just the last idiotic thing to come out of someones mouth, but you know, that's exactly how some people feel, not just with Natives but with all people of color.
I see it in the homeless shelters especially on the holidays when the whites go slumming to feel good about themselves.They think appearing once or twice a year to serve a dinner to the homeless makes them extra special people..

`I agree with both of you, straighteyes and huggeroftrees, and what you said is true. I never thought that i would see the day when a gallon of milk is five dollars a gallon, and people would be waiting in line to buy gas. I have seen people angry because other's cut them off to get in the gas line, at a local convenient store.I remember working, in peoples garden for extra money to buy milk, when i was in elementary school, and i have worked two jobs at a time, to support myself. Now, i do volunteer, on a weekly basis, and am collecting items for the abuse shelter on the local womens reservation. I am part cherokee, and i try to help out other people, regardless of their race. My papaw always said, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I worked during the holidays ringing a bell to collect money for the needy. I saw the people who are single moms and the disabled give their last change, while people who drove very nice vehicles, and wore expensive clothing, avoid me, and the other employees.I was located in front of a expensive clothing store at the time. I have lived on a reservation, and i have seen reality. People living in mobile homes in the woods, without electricity, and using wood stoves to cook, heat, and carrying their water from a creek. I know about poverty, and working hard. I grew up in poverty, and it has been my reality. Thank you for letting me express my opinion.

`Germany and the States got a lot in common. Our living conditions aren´t as bad as in the States, but the problems are cooking in the same soup. Our country got swammed by foreigners, lots from Russia and Polen within the last years.Their grandparents have been from germany now they are coming back with all their family members their children and their families, their grandchildren and their families..and they are coming for money... they are asking for retire payments and do get them..but they never worked here... their children never worked here.. their grandchildren do not work ( most of them ) but are all living fine . They get a lot of money when they are coming over. Many stay here since 15 years and are not able to talk even one german sentence. They do not accept our culture, they have no respect at all. They do not want to get integrated. The same with the turks. The older ones are living here since 40 years and are not able to talk one word in german. And the young ones...the german girls seemed to be the fast food for them...let a german boy look after a turkish girl...they kill both...but they are born in germany. And all the others...well who is earning the money ? The german dummies...there will be no retirement payment for us.. young children with seperated parents have to finance their mother from the monthly payments from their dads..Lots of children grow up in poverty... the germans..not the russians...We have a lot of trouble with the russian mafia which acts totally brutal...no feeling inside. Not all of them are like that....but many..we have to face domestic violence,, kill, drugs and alc problems in a way we never saw before...no social program works..
Sometimes I think this is the backfire. Once we ran around in the world, we took what we want, needed or not, we showed no respect to other countries and other people, we milked other nations out. Now we have got overrunned, got milked, have to work for other people and their income, our former excellent school system is something you can just laugh about and a youth without duties will become a duty! Just wait and see.
I work my --- of for people who have more money without working..
I do not hate people from abroad, but if I want to come to the States I need money to stay there..and no Obama would give me a monthly pay check ...

The thing people don't seem to understand about native people is that most of us just want to be left alone and away from the spotlight. When the backstabbers came through, my ancestors chose not to fight, to stand there ground and not budge. I can see a similar thing today. Most natives don't care about the political bull---- because generations of what were exposed to keep most of us from caring or believing in any kind of white ways.

Black people are opposite, they push and push, verbally proclaiming in public their rants. This, mixed with a vast number of blacks, takes affect on this country. White people seem to see Barack as a much bigger step then it actually is.
Now, on the other hand, a small population of natives here, keep their bickering on the down low so as to not show disrespect. Doing anything otherwise draws attention..

Using this white system to better ourselves isn't something a lot of people are willing to do. We live with what is and pray for those that can't; we don't look down on those that struggle or do nothing. We may B---- or blame people, behind doors, for keeping bad s--- going in our communities but we know it's not entirely their fault, it's the things passed down upon them that torment them.

People living on the outside looking in can never truly understand, they can only judge and make a decision on their judgement and go by it. People cannot fully understand that which they haven't lived and experienced. People cannot understand the pride a native person has in who they are and where they come from. That very pride in relation to our knowledge is far from being understood by outsiders.

On topic:

All white presidential faces lined the wall across the top of the chalkboard in my middle school social studies class. Now I can imagine a black face sits at the end of it. I honestly don't know what to believe, whether the president actually has power, or all those standing behind him. I just thought the symbolism was what was important.

The black act like this one man is going to make the past go away.. They also think that he is going to hand out money to them for gas and mortgages. Hard to believe that people still think that this man is going to take care of all their finances.

I do not live on a reservation never have so I can not ever speak about what goes on there.
I live my life in this society and I fight for my rights, and I will fight as they drag me kicking to the interment camps.I am not here to make anyone thing like me, but at the same time no one has the right to make me think as they do.I do not wear rose colored glasses.

I can honestly say I find it a bit odd how people put so much faith into a president. The president could be of native decent and I'd still be in the same position I am now..glad for the symbolism, yet wary of the fact it probably means nothing more than that.

`I was sceptical when it came to Obama during the campaigns, mainly because his widely known mottos "change" and "yes we can" seemed to mask the deep problems the US were in within the financial markets and foreign affairs. Sure the guy knows how to win over a crowd and has charisma, but empty words don't solve anything.

However, his acts in the first week of his precidency were hopeful. He ordered the closing of Guantanamo Bay and promised to retreat the troops from Iraq to great relief of the parents of the American soldiers. Perhaps his promise to improve the bonds with the Middle East may increase the hope for mutual understanding and respect. As for the financial crisis, he's no economist nor will he bring an immediate solution for the problem caused by money grubbing, greedy bankers on Wall Street. As long as he doesn't bail them out as in the Bush administration. Bail-out plans are insipid and the taxpayer has to pay for such stupid decisions in the future, unfortunately.

In any case, at this point anything is better than what Bush was doing for 8 long years.

First of all, the people who were tortured and inhumanely treated in that prison are not all "terrorists". Over 90% were held there without any accusation whatsoever. They were put there because they looked and dressed differently and were at the wrong place and at a convenient time for the ones arresting them. That's like grabbing any random person off the streets and putting them in a prison and start waterboarding them and imposing other types of torture measures. That is horrendous, regardless of your race or creed.

Those prisoners described above will be released. So I hardly get the "send them to my back yard" statement. In fact, most of the prisoners aren't even American, they mostly have British, German etc. nationalities. So need not worry, xenophobia won't be neccesary.

I have not heard any of his plans on the economy that were concrete and explicit, or I might have simply forgotten, but if it included bail-outs then I don't have much hope for the state of the economy in the future.
