I have two names. One from my mother who was a fullblood mohave which is Riverotter. She use to laugh because we were raised alongside the Colorado River snd since we swam all the time, we would get real dark in the summertime. The other is from my father who was a fullblood Navajo and that is Wallking Bear because I was tall and had wide shoulders. LOL! A-A-Y!

I was reading some of post here and to receive a Cherokee name has to be given to you by an elder. Some of the name here don't sound like Cherokee. They sound more like western Native names. Awianida is my name in Cherokee given to me by my grandmother. Also for Cherokee to talk or associated with an owl is bad medicine. For us the owl is the messenger of death or things to come. I am not trying to be mean but trying to educate. It is nice to meet people on here from different Nations and different beliefs. Which I respect 100%.
