Ancestry.com is the best site I have used.
I have my family traced back to 1810 on fathers side.
On my moms side I have it way further back. dont remember the year though.
I know the Cherokee have a geneology site. Cherokee.com is the main site and they have a bunch of off shoots.
Have you tried doing a google search for your tribe geneology.
Track down all the wedding certificates, death certificates, places lived, jobs worked, and land owned of every family member as far back as you can go. Ask all the family for every name they can think of family members. Ask family members for all the stories they can remember about family members. Use a tape recorder. These will help you in your search.
I have a newspaper article about my great grandfather. Was any of the family news in any way. He was found dead in a tent. Died of an illness.
I know I am not the best to answer your question. These are what I have done.
My daughter in law has her geneology back to the 1500's! The fink! Giggle.
Hope this helps

I have found if you search records such as death records and graveyard for you gggrandparents It can show your the traces of Indian ancestory. I was pretty blessed my greatgrandad registered as Indian and my mother was in school as Haliwa-Saponi. Although I never knew anything BUT Africian American until I did some digging. You may want to ask a older relative which may remember some clue which can lead you your ancestory. I am 1/4 Haliwa yet it was and is a long jounery toward knowledge of my hertiage and background. Good Luck!!

I had the same problem. What I did is I called Chief Gene and he got me started looking for death records and places of burial. It really helped. Only problem is if you need the documents, in most states it's not free. It's around $12 or so.
Good Luck

`you can go to large libraries and check census records, but to begin start with your parents and work your way back. Find funeral records plenty of information there ..I have managed to go all the way back to the 1700
