To the best of my knowledge I am part Cherakee, and part Creek. That is all I have been able to uncover, but I resently descover'd that my last name may be a derivative of the name Seminole.

I am not in a position to pay for a test but I REALY NEED TO KNOW, just how much my relationship with Native American blood goes, All those who know are dead. For anyone who may need to see just how close I resemble my ancesters they can see on NATIVE AMERICAN PASSIONS under twocrows2059. thank you for any help that you can provide.

`Correction brother it is spelled Cherokee of Tsalagi. Were your ancestors from Alabama. Northern Alabama was the southern border of CN. Which bordered with Creeks. Look up the last names of your ancestors.

`I have been searching for a few years to add more information to my family tree.
My family is from Alabama and Georgia on my mother's side. Cherokee being the tribe my oldest living ancestor told me we have in our blood. I have seen the photographs, but they are less the full names needed for a proper search. DNA is an option I am interested in, if anyone knows of a test that will give the information feel free to contact me with it. Thanks

`Tribal affiliation does not go off DNA tests. Especially for the Cherokee because so many claim to have Cherokee, Creek, or Choctaw blood, you have to have a known relative on any of the rolls, i.e. Dawes or Baker. Even with my grandmother being 3/4 she is not registered because there were a number of Cherokee who kept their land and did not follow to register. For the Cherokee nation you HAVE to have either a blood quantum level or known ancestor on a roll to enroll in a tribe and it has been said that DNA tests alone cannot account for Native American ancestry. Supposedly there are similar genotypes between Native people and people from some parts of Europe and Asia.
Lastly, a DNA test will do you no good anyways if you do not have any known Native family members left alive. It would be a waste of time and money. Just embrace your culture without putting such pressure on yourself...true Natives do not go by the amount of Indian blood but how "true" it is so to speak.
