February was the 15th anniversary of Jeans passing. She was the leader of the Phoenix Indian School Preservation Coalition. She began the fight to preserve the site under a native community mandate. She spent the remainder of her life in securing the site for the community. Now is has become the Steele Park.
I was her Executive Director until her passing and now have become the Chairman dedicated to ensure that the future development of the site is in accordance of the Phoenix Indian School Master Plan. This a "treaty" between the City of Phoenix and the Native community. All that you see on the site have cme from native views. There is work to be done.
I have posted a video of her last speech before she passed. She tells of our hopes, dreams and visions for the site. She never saw the fruits of her labor. She was truly a leader and we miss her. I hope that you view this video to see one of our fallen heroes. The Steele Park and its amenities was our collective vision and was her finest hour.
