Hi. I've noticed a very serious problem in Native Communities. Its a three fold problem. You've probably all seen the crazy women who flock to reservations looking for a native man to be their boyfriend. They usually look for a guy who claims to be a medicine man or cultural expert of some sort. This fantasy stems from the romantization of indian culture by whites begining in the 1800s. These women live in a fantasy mind-set trying to experience some present day "Dances with Wolves" romance.
That's the first fold. The second fold of this problem are the native guys who prey upon this. Though they often have no real indepth cultural knowledge, they project themselves as being cultural gurus and entrap these women. They use them for..uhm..sex, usually have other women and almost always jump from one woman to the next.
The third and final fold are the results of these behaviors. They undermine the value of the culture itself, erode the traditonal values of the communities and destroy native families. I know its hard not to fall into this when you like someone and this is what they want from you. But if they don't want you for who you really are, is it really worth sacrificing your intergrity , your cultural integrity and the social coheasion of your people?

Oh Man, it's so hard being a Mystical Warrior/Shaman these days...
Leading all those sweat lodges and naming ceremonies...
Giving speaches at New Age Gatherings,
answering all those unenlightened questions
about Secret Indian Medicine & Magic...
Sharing your Mystical Warrior/Shaman medicine/magic
with all those young nubile white girl seekers...
Keeping track of a the latest la/na/da-kotah
buzz words and phrases
What's a Mystical Shaman Warrior to do???
It takes lots of green frog skins
to keep the act on the road...
being serious,
It's a bit difficult to relate to them that's doin' it...
It's not only guy's, but there seems to be a growing
number of women doing it too.
Being a Woman Warrior/Shaman is just as profitable.
Not sure how we can stop it, really don't think we can.

`This s--- doesn't bother me so much, anyone in the circle knows who sits outside. The thing that is bothersome are the people that do carry medicine who take advantage.

`First, I find it interesting that the very first post, since you joined our il----rious group, is to rail against Native men preying on White women.
Second, I have seen many White men married to Native women. There is obviously a mystical reason for the phenomenon. Third, If this issue is offensive to you. then why did you join. I wonder what your reason is? Lastly, People of all races search for fullfilment. If they cannot find it with their own then they seek elsewhere. But, I do appreciate your candor, so often people smile, but when you take off the mask of civility you expose the face of hate.

`Hey now you can't just assume everyone is out doing the same thing and has the same intentions. At least someone has the sense to say that everyone searches for fulfillment. I didn't come to this site because I'm a groupie as you say, not everyone's the same. I'm my own person, I do what I want to do and nothing else. And I don't think in terms of race and never have. Racism either way always shocks me because I can't believe race is the first and foremost thing on everyone else's mind. Like wtf, seriously? In 2010 all you care about is what race you are and what race everyone else is? Also, I'm not into all that country western hillbilly ideas of the old west and that includes the image of natives that you're talking about. I come from a redneck place and that's the thing I've tried my whole life to avoid and get away from. But I did just happened to fall for someone recently, though I'm slowly getting over it here... As always in my life, no guy will ever give me a chance because I'm a fat girl. So yeah, as riverotter said, everyone searches for fulfillment. I'm no exception. I'm a human being too and I'm sick to death of not being considered a human at all. And if some guy gets my attention, I'm not allowed to look and be intrigued and interested? I hate that crap. And being as alone as I've always been my whole life, I've lived and do live in my own little world not paying attention to what everyone else is doing because I've had no choice. I've lived the loneliest life of anyone in the world and I just think I'm well within my human rights to want a big guy to bang the s*** out of me. And again, race isn't any concern of mine.

`And what I really really hate as a mix blooded woman of two tribes( tribally enrolled) and white blood is when a non native person that has "studied" under a "medicine man" has the gall and audacity to tell me how to be an Indian based on what her medicine man tells her. Then she will say that I am racist against her because I feel angry with her in that she has no idea what my life is like....zero!!! But because she is white and wealthy she can buy a medicine man spiritual teachings then lay them on me like she is helping me. Go figure!!!!!! I find it the height of arrogance. I have tried to explain to her my experiances in this world as a mixed person. She can't hear my pain or suffering. Because in her world all Indians live out west and are full blooded. Crazy.......Crazy.......Stuff. But isn't this type of divide and conquer behavior getting old for the Euros? Steal a little of this and a little of that.. Call it Indian and bang!!! they make money off our peoples backs. Being a mix blood person you get racism from the Whites and Indians. And then if your from two tribes like myself. Forget it!!!!

`What I hate is the white = wealthy assumption. I'm white but I'm as poor class as it gets! Ok, I know plenty are worse off than me, but still, I'm still poor class and even with a computer degree, it doesn't matter worth a s**t to the rich yuppie scum employers, they still see me as poor class trash. But I do hate how people assume that because you're white you must be rich & privileged, because I know first hand just how not privileged a lot of white people are. It's all about what class you're born in to. True, white MEN have it easier. Men have it easier because men can be ugly as hell, stink like a sewer, weigh 600 lbs and still get any job, any time, any place, all they need to do is be male and fill out an application. But women sure as hell aren't equal in society so it's about looks too. Any woman over a size 2 can never have a white collar job (such as my degree would qualify me for) and any woman over a size 6 can forget about working at McDonald's, a gas station, a grocery store, a dollar store or anything else. Even the grits who are managers at those kinds of places look down their nose at me like I'm just trash and scum of the earth. (A grit is a term we use here for rednecks, though usually the difference is that grits are nasty, unfriendly people, where as someone can be a redneck and be nice.) I've been homeless before and fear that's all I'll be in the future, that I'll spend my entire life on the streets because I'm not thin & beautiful enough & born in to the right class to be a part of their world. So ya know what? It all has me saying f**k the white world too!
LOL I love the honest & open dialogue here, by the way.

You are right about the job thing. I've fought it for many years. "Harden not your heart." |

`Well, I can certainly identify with the frustration of the white=rich thing. I also grew up very poor on the East Coast, went to Columbia U, but worked my way through school, and got yelled at by homeless black men when I wouldn't give them the "wealth" I had in my pocket (which was $2 dollars to my next pay check). But regardless, we ALL could probably tell stories of our frustrations and bad experiences, does it really get us anywhere..?? Hardship is hardship, and frankly, I think that's what life is .. hard. It's the dying part that's easy. Energy is best spent toward positivity or you'll just find yourself stuck in the mud. That's my two cents.
