`Being a native or indigenous of continent of America seems kind of a fashion obsession to the wannabes but all real natives are born with our cultural identity (native language, native genes, native history, native religion and native political ideology)

Basically, the site is set up to allow anyone interested in the Native American community to join, and interact with others. And as the site grows and as we enhance the features within it, members should be able to limit their interactions to those they are really interested in getting to know...full blooded, half, quarter and even the 'I think I have Native blood in me somewhere, but I'm not really sure' gang.

Thanks,

Of course I will not go inside the ability for full or part Natives to be a part of this site.
For the topic only focusing on Natives issues I have no voice to make earing of course but a site having as main focus to let Natives peoples to maybe meet other in showing their personality and mostly to can express themselves without stranger translation is very interiesting and rich of knowledge with every one being sensible to this culture and identity.

I really love the kind of relations I made here and how far of the "clichés" they are that I would be very sad to ha ve to leave...

THANKS TO ALL THE OPEN MINDS !

`I don't want to be negative or racist but in 1491 those that were here including my tribe had dark skins more or less, black hair, etc. . Those that came on the boats from the Old World in 1492 and later had light skins, blue eyes , blonde hair. There was a pronounced division between the two races. Either you were native or European. In modern day Indian Country it is the BIA not the respective tribes that allow blood-quantum and decide for the tribes. I am a member of my tribe based on quantum rules enforced by the BIA. I call myself a member but if the tribe said only full bloods are allowed membership in the tribe then I will happily turn in my CIB card. I am at the point that I just tell people I am part Indian and leave it at that. I am also Hispanic and am fine with that. It is a shame that the tribes are not more in charge of their own destinies and will one day throw off the yoke of the BIA overlordship. Also I hope one day the United States government gives back all the monies taken/stolen from the Indians including my tribe.

Interesting subject.

I want to make a comment here.

My bloodline is mostly European but on my mother's side of the family, I had a Choctaw great grandfather. However, I don't go around calling myself Native American just because I have a small amount of my grandfather's blood in me.

So, the thing with me is I identify with American Indians in a spiritual sense. It's hard to explain. However, I don't call myself Native American. I say I am Caucasian, which I am.

Even as a child of six years old, I for some reason identified with Native Americans. My first lover in high school was American Indian. When I was with him, it felt natural to me. The issue of race never came up between he and I. It was like our skin color just didn't exist or matter.

I have no way to fully explain why I have this pull towards them. It just is with me. I have never tried to be Native American and I don't want to call myself that. I just feel some kind of soul pulling attraction there. I don't think it's a ------ or whatever you want to call it. It has been with me for many years. We are talking about 38 years now. I have dated more than one American Indian man. So it's something that is very deep within me.

Now, the question is: Does that make me a "Wannabe"?
I don't think it does.

`Wow i'm starting to wonder if I am offending people by being on this site. My son is an "apple" or whatever I never heard the term or mabe there is some other one for him as his daddy is 'apple' and I am cacaisian. I just thought mabe it would be right to get to know a part of my son I am not familiar with so he can be proud of himself as he grows, but after reading this am wondering if his very exsistance offends people although I think he is beautiful. White people feel he isnt white enough and natives feel he isn't native enough. This saddens me, what will become of him in life if he is not accepted by either? Sorry if my being here offends people that was not meant. I am not a wannabe i'm just me and wan't my son to develop a good self image. Do I hide from him his fathers back ground, that doesn't seem fair. Now i'm confused.

Posted:     Post subject: I'll admit I was once guilty of that desire

I wanted to be full blooded Native back when I was little, and thru high school years. I think this started around the time I learned about Pocahontas in history.

My mother told me we had Native blood, but the conversation never went any further than that. At the time, I didn't have sense enough to prod her about it, and find out what tribe.

But when I think about it now, does it REALLY make that much of a difference? I mean, had I found out more about my heritage, it still wouldn't change the way we lived. In a 4 walled box, cage, civilized people call them apartments.

I never truly thought about why I wanted to be Native, or understood it. Now that I think about it, I'm sure it's because of the way we lived, the foods we ate, the clothes we wore. I've ALWAYS felt an extreme connection to my earth home, unlike my civilized materialistic family. They like their toys and name brand items. I'll shop at Thrift store, or take a hand me down from friends in a HOT minute, because I simply don't give a damn about that kind of stuff. My family don't GET me, and my friends only get the tip of the ice burg.

Now, it's not about WHAT race I am. Native, African, Asian, European.....who cares? We're all human, and WE ALL have a responsibility to HONOR and RESPECT our earth home. The majority don't do this. And there are plenty of Natives out there that are so OUT of touch, that they are just as guilty. I know some that if given the chance to live the like old ways, would laugh and keep on reaping the material fields, because possessions, and being bound by desire is what they want.

*shaking my head*

I simply cannot understand how people couldn't possibly want more. More IS less.

`Just to throw it out there, why would being open-minded and not racist make someone a wannabe? I'm not a wannabe, the only thing I would want is just to be accepted as a human being, equal to and as good as anyone else. And if we're supposed to keep to ourselves or something, well I don't think I see a NeoNaziPassions on the list of sites or anything, or WhitePridePassions or whatever. lol And there's probably not going to be because racism is offensive and should be discouraged.

`I am not native whatsoever. I joined this site to learn. to meet friendly people with whom to interact and share experiences with and share information on cultural background with. I live in a small country in Europe, and we are wrongly informed about almost everything when it comes to native americans. Native american is not one culture but many, and what we get is a generalized picture of it. So in my mind, the way to seek the truth is to talk to real people, and not just read a book about what one person think. Building a bridge of friendship and respect. I would think that to any nation in the world, it would be important that the right information gets spread out instead of a twisted image.
I am sure that none of the non-natives in here joined to be disrespectful. I am sure that there are also native americans that are curious to know about other cultures. We are all individual people with individual minds and interests. No matter what bloodline we have. If you express your pride in your culture, by putting all who don't belong to that culture down, what you are doing is giving the culture, you are so proud of, a bad reputation. One of being racist. Wannabe is such a negative loaded word. It basically means that we can't search for information on anything outside of the categories that our own culture provide us with. Because if we do, we are wannabes. To break the bad habbits in this world, we need to be enlightened about the truth first.
