Why do some Natives think that everybody on this site want to be like them?
Let me say some things form my own culture and people. Ever since my people cam to shores of Adriatic sea, we are haunted like animals. Only thing what changes is who hunts us.
Yes, you were killed, egziled, still victims of rasism, mocked.... So is my people.
My brother, mother and me are the last of my family. Everyone is killed in the last war. So don't tell me that I am a Native wannabe. I have history of my own.....

Well said!!!
My ancestory is French, Irish and a mix of English! So ok, my family came to Ireland back with William the conqueror when the french invaded England and some settled in Ireland (mothers side) and my fathers side have been Irish from the year dot (though there is a question of where my true grandfather came from as we believe he was american and stationed locally to my grandmother back in ww2).
If the English didn't invade Ireland and starve the people out of the country I would be very much Irish now. We are only 3 generations english...so I would like to add....just because of where I come from don't hold it against me.

`Not all want to be Native just the ones that got caught up in Dances With Wolves movie. I understand that all cultures at one time suffered, some more than others.I am truly sorry you lost your family.
As far as Racism goes I see more racism is NP. and other Native sites against the so called "White man aka Europeans" I am not a wannabe anything just a walking talking part of the Human Being Race..

It might not be right to label someone a wannabe but it's easy for me to understand where they are coming from.
Understanding makes it easy to ignore.

`I guess on this I'm a little divided. While I don't mind sharing my culture with non-natives sometimes it does get annoying to feel objectified or perceived in a unrealistic fantasy. I had one lady at a place I used to work at constantly come up to me and stare at me literally and then ramble on and on about something she say on the Discovery Channel about the Aztecs or how she took a trip once. And then she would ask me weird questions about traditions and spirituality and she demanded that I teach her danza because her great-grandmother was half Cherokee, a totally different nation that mine! It made no sense.. It annoyed me to no end. She had no respect for my culture or heritage. She just wanted to prance around in feathers that was it..

`personally I never looked good in feathers..they make me sneeze. the only thing that gets me is the 'native soul' thing....I understand that some people honestly believe it, a soul trapped in the wrong body, or native in a past life..but this is the life we were given to live now. and I know I will get blasted about this by someone from out of nowhere (wouldnt be the first time) but I strongly believe that until one makes the most of who they ARE they will never be happy...

`I thought this site was for native AMERICAN people to find each other. There are so few of us in existence, but the computer age at least gives us a chanc to find each other. Now we've got non-Indians horning in on this site and acting all offended when they get called on it!

Just a quick little comment from our perspective (the guys that made the website) about the posts saying that the site is supposed to be for Native Americans (and that there are too many 'non-Native and/or Native wannabees'.
While the site is focused on the Native American community, we tried to make it work for a wide variety of people. In the groups area, you can find 'full blooded' as an option, but there are groups for members who are not full blooded too. Lots of them, hopefully giving people the ability to show roughly where they fit in the site.
We figured that there is really no way to set the site up and restrict it only to Native American members, and we didn't really want to do genealogy tests before approving membership.
Deciding who should make the cut would be a nightmare. What about people that aren't full blooded? Is half Ok? What about a quarter? One sixteenth?
Like I said, we really did try to give everyone a 'group' option that would help them make it clear where they fit in this big wonderful (and massively dysfunctional ) family we have here on Native American Passions.
One thing that can make it easier for Native American members who are trying to focus their attention on finding other (uhm...real?) Native American members is a change we made in the Groups area in the last month. We enhanced the search option within the groups area (and it was WAY overdue ). Before the change, there was no way to search on the site for someone who was full blooded Native American. You could browse that group, but you'd see everyone that had joined...no matter their sex, their s----l orientation, their age, their location.
Now you can search for exactly the type of person you are interested in. We aren't combining groups yet, but the new option is a big step forward. Want to find someone in a specific tribe? Now you can.
[Side note...everyone should really review their group choices and make sure the groups you are in describe you.]
Basically, the site is set up to allow anyone interested in the Native American community to join, and interact with others. And as the site grows and as we enhance the features within it, members should be able to limit their interactions to those they are really interested in getting to know...full blooded, half, quarter and even the 'I think I have Native blood in me somewhere, but I'm not really sure' gang.
Thanks,
.
