.I hear you! You have hit the nail on the head here. Most white women think that natives are so different, yet they are not. I live around many natives and they are not much different from whites. Yes, they have a beautiful culture. Most white women think they can live on a reservation and blend in, well, not so. Not many white women will not put up with the raging poverty on most reservations, and no way to get around, and nothing to do and no money to do anything with. The romance would quickly fail then. They would high-tail it back to civilization as fast as they could if they had to spend months living in dire poverty as most natives do. And yes, the movies do portray the natives as mysterious and romantic. And some natives are. But they have all the same problems that whites do, even more so with the lives they have to lead living on reservations. And yes, some natives are more white than whites which is not good. But they are only trying to fit in with the white society. The white women who think they can live like a native are only fooling themselves. Very few really do, and most of them live in towns off the reservations. Most white women forget that most natives have large, extended families and their homes or shacks could be filled on a daily basis with such families. The romantic notion that the white women have would soon fly out the window then.
Get real, white women. Enjoy the native culture, yes, but don't be fooled into thinking you have got it made with a native man and can change him. |

There Is No Point In Discussions All It Ever Ends UP As Is Huge Debates ANd Trying To Prove Each Other Wrong How About Just Stating Your Opinion Instead Of Saying " Sorry To Break It To You " Or Noo I Think" Like YOu Think You KNow Something ... Everybody Knows WE Are All Our Own Person And Have Are Own Individual Opinion So Leave It That Way Eventually You will Find Someone Who Shares The Same Opinion And It Will Be Great.....Arent These Supposed To Be Here To Only Read Each Others Views ANd Not Attack Them?

`Smiling, I don't think anyone here is saying that. I know I personally don't dig on civilization, but civilization isn't just big, well-to-do cities. large orginizations of people living in a domestic place is as good as a civilization to me. Quite frankly, I prefer it in the wilderness, I've done it before, and I'd do it again. I do so prefer living off the land to living with an assload of people in a residential area.
And Dragonfang, there's nothing wrong with debate ^.^ it's fun, it's informative, and if you avoid it then there is no room for growth or enlightenment.

Hagalaz: I copied what a guy wrote. I think he was Native American. May be you need to have a chat with him.
All I did was agree with him.
I lived with ONLY Native American Men (full blooded) from birth until I was 25 and married two. That more than qualifies me on the subject.
I am not not Native American man blind. They are just men with all the good bad and ugly that comes with men.
And to break it down a bit more the only differences between Indian males are tribal. Mostly (not all) based on if they are a matriarchal or patriarchal tribe.

They are the same as all men they have eyes, legs torso, arms, some are short some are tall.. For some reason the native people are the in thing and everyone wants to be Native.Everyone claims to be Cherokee or a decedent from a Cherokee princess that is so sad to not be happy in your own skin and wanting to be something you are not... It is sad to see the people being looked on as above all others, we are human and have the same issues as any other group of people. .

.If people only knew how dysfunctional Native communities really are, and the inside destruction we are experiencing as a people, they would not want to be Native.
If folks understood, both Native and non-Native alike, the serious nature of Native spirituality, most of us would fail.
It is one thing to have inherited America, or a sort of Domestic Dependent relationship with the United States, but quite another to be ripped apart by both sides.
Yes, Native men are men, but other then some genetic likeness with other North Americans and South Americans, we are all individuals, we may share some inter-tribal culture and views, yet, we are tied into Mainstream America, and the early inculcation of values of our people and family!
Some are so far from Native ethics and values they cease to be Native because of their genetics, some who are very light, and may have a Lakota princess in their family, My GGG Grandfather was a Lakota Chief, may actually know more about Native ethics, values, beliefs, culture and so forth.
The inheritance of medicine, or being a throw back, is something quite different for some born that way, vs., those who seek that sort of thing from ceremony and from Tribes who allow that sort of inculcation.
Native Men, we are very diverse, and it is not skin color or genetics or features that makes us Native, it is our culture. Some may disagree, but I do not think it is purely genetic as some do.
Like some guilt others into only marrying other Natives, purely on racially based assumptions, while still, others seek non-Indians to somehow think they are going to make us better.
The fact is, is we all come from the same first hu7man beings, and because of this, we are all related, some closer then others. Science shows this. Creator taught us this.
I am part French, and often ridiculed by both sides, but yet, consider myself a throwback, whether it be because of genetics, a chemical imbalance, or some spiritual thing happening, I am and follow Native teachings and what I am shown. I feel I have no choice.
Throwback means, some people are just born with the old unconsciouss collective of the people! Our ancestors are in us strong, while some, even if they claim they are an Native because of their skin color and features may not have this CURSE. (lol)
It is much easier to just be a normal person who can do whatever they want without consciousness or extreme responsibility for others!
I have NEVER wanted to be a non-Indian, it is just not who I am. My Tribal Council may think they are Indians but act just like Euro-American mainstream, but I do not feel I am living in denial.
There is a extreme price paid for being an Indian.
I read on a bothers profile the other day and agree, "It takes a good man to not follow the rules of an Evil society (men)." For the good man not to do anything, "is a crime"....... |

I can easily see where your getting at right here and this is something that many people often don't think about or expect.
That word "disfunctional" is easily a label for my family. It is so in a very extreme sense compared to what most people might term it's definition. The only part about it is that my family always stays in touch, esecially in family emergencies, and grudges always dissipate, but all in all very disfunctional. We easily tolerate stuff that many people wouldn't want to deal with, especially the toleration of family that are doings things we do not agree with.

Metisarch said it good. I've known that the old ways were best from birth. I've spent my life living away from the white world as best I can. Was even thrown in jail for a week at 14 cause I wanted to go live in the mountians in the old ways. They said I could get out after" I agreed to live like a white man" that was their words. When I got out I got on my horse & l left for the hills. Spent most of the next three years out there. Then met my first wife & sold the horse & got married & she soon left me with twin daughters & we never saw her again. I still miss that horse! I now do the 18th century reenactments.

These are very deep discussions...and very respectable opinions. I have enjoyed seeing these perspectives on the subject. I have to admit that my family may not have a not of Native American "Blood"; but we do not live in the "white ways". We believe in family, values, morals, and just common respect for others.
Men are men in any culture. It takes a real man, no matter where they hail, to be able to hold his head high and live the way it was meant to be.
Make sense? Sometimes I ramble....after all, I am female!!! LOL.

*hearts* Good post! My sentiments exactly!
I think its important to be secure in your own culture and traditions rather than try to feel connected by someone elses. Being with a native man isn't going to be all pow wows and sitting beneath the stars searching for a vision.. He's gonna put his feet up on the coffee table, slap your behind and say, "hey babe git me anoder beer eh".. just like the rest of them..
