Hi, I'm new to this forum topic. My name is Windy. I will explain my heritage later. I want to first say that when the author of this topic mentioned South America, it reminded me of my half sister Lita. My half sister is from my Dad's second marriage to Stella who was from La Paz, Bolivia, South America. Stella looked Indian. Of course she denied it.

I eventually met a man who is Indian who happened to be from Bolivia. He told me that he's part Spanish from his Indian mother's side. His Indian father spoke Indian fluently. The mother didnt.

My friend is a mixed blood Indian but he does not speak Indian fluently like his father does. He speaks Spanish fluently as that is his first language that he learned from his mother. I did show him the photo of Stella, my Dad's wife.

My friend looked up and confirmed that Stella looked Indian. I thanked him for helping me out because I was confused. I was like "Was Stella just telling a lie or truth?" Now with my friend's insight provided to my benefit, I know Stella is Indian without a DOUBT. I now understand that she lived a LIE for most of her life. She did not want to be reminded of it.

When my friend looked in the photo, he noticed a native Indian Bolivian rug on the wall behind Stella and my Dad and my half sister Lita. It was so obvious. I don't know why Stella has a very negative attitude about being Indian. It's sad. I met her when I was 3.

She sent me the check of $200 last July because she wanted me to come visit her and my Dad in Florida. She has been taking care of him. It is hard on her because my Dad is now suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It's just destavasting! They have had been married for 35 years. Long time, huh?

I grew up with a lot of hate, prejudice, and discrimination that came from the dominant society. The treatment of not being wanted by the dominant society enraged my mother and she took out her rage on me and my sister. It hurt the family unit/structure.

I hated her at first but I slowly started to realize that this is because she was wounded in her soul. Family unit is very sacred. It was very badly damaged from within. I now know that what happened was not my mother's fault. I have forgiven her.
