Gangs does not exist where I live (we have our "bunchs" of illegal players but nothing comparable) but if I believe on what is said in reporting, there are lot of differences between the notorious "Street Gangs" (mostly black and latinos) and the ones assimiled as "Indian's" gang like the "Warrior's Societies" ?

Some say it's a mistake to assimilate both ! Have you one idea about that ?

`Many Native youth are no different than other youth in that they may rebel against the older generation. They may engage in self-destructive behaviors through street gangs. Many of these youth were exposed to gangs in big U.S. cities, thus have borrowed heavily from major groups, Sur13, Crips, Bloods, Folks, etc.

I believe this "gangster rap music" glorifies this thug mentality..Degrades women and so on.. It's really sad to see how many young black men are in wheel chairs because of their gang activities, never to walk again and have to carry the bag for their waste. What A life!!!

I don't quite understand that too well from the way I'm used to having things worded, might you rephrase that?

There is a gang in my city, "native mob". It's spread into the reservations up north too, such a shame. The acceptance of the image is so widespread, even by those unaffiliated. People claim or just represent it to look cool. I am pretty cold towards the mob, I once had ill thoughts about trying to get rid of them myself but I figured the ending of their lives would affect their families and spread more negativity then those gangbangers would likely ever do themselves. I try not to let it bother me but sometimes I can't help but find myself despising those who look up to the mob. The image and damage they bring to their relatives and community is despicable.

`It is a shame to see this happening in all walks of life. I do not see the Native gangs as there are no Natives or rez. here in Mo., but I do see the destruction of youth in this city, doesn't matter if your rich poor or whatever they think it is cool to wear color, flash gang signs and cause havoc in the streets. The really sad part are the ones who pretend to be in gangs and wander into neighborhoods and find out too late that they were only pretending and were no match for what they ran into.. St. Louis has someone shot every single day and it's sad because some that are shot are the kids not even in gangs.innocent bystanders...

`"Listen to your kids talk, listen carefully when they're talking to each other. Ask your kid what his nickname is. Maybe you'll catch him off-guard, and he'll tell you.
"Go out in the neighborhood and look at the graffiti on garage doors, on abandoned houses and warehouses. Is your kid's nickname there? He's a gang member!"
"Gain knowledge in street - language!" Names for gangs include: Sets, Your Hood, Homies, Peoples, Cousins, Kinfolks, Dogs and Locs.
Among other gang terms are:
Punks - soft, runty "Mama boys."
Marks - kids who want out (but if they get out they may be killed.)
Dog - a Blood gang member.
Loc - a Crip gang member.
Mercy - shoot but let live.
Break Yourself - run or you're dead.
Typical Blood nicknames - Bounty Hunter, Breege, Shotgun, Loco,
Redman, Hi-Low and Shorty.
Typical Crips nicknames - Rolling 60's, B.K. Polo, Highlife, D. Loc (or C.
Loc, L. Loc etc.), Big Man and Cousin.

GANGS ARE NOT NEW IN ST LOUIS WE HAVE HAD THE DISCIPLES HERE SINCE 1958

You're both right with the fact I still meet some problems to make my thoughts being clear in English writing (I'm afraid in oral way that would be worse ).

I thank you for your replies and apologize for my delay but it seems that my PC dislike to see me going in such topic because I had to solve a total stop of my exploitation system just after this post .

That's pretty difficult for me to figure the gangs phenomenon since there are no gangs here. The most approaching for me is the Italian "Mafia".
I have no more passion than admiration for the "bad boys", I'm just for personal reasons interested by what happens inside American's prisons and it's where I learnt that even the Officials make a kind of difference between the Native Gangs and the others. The main difference coming from the difference of their origin.
Almost all of the Gangs have as origine either some racism, either some traffic motivation. Official say that the Native Gangs were not street gangs at the origin and are born inside the prisons, with as inspiration the old Warriors Societies, to defend the Natives members against the others.

I just wished to understand if it was true for a part.

I'm not quite sure the origins, I suppose it depends on where you're from. There are gangs of every racial group. I'm sure most gangs do begin in prison, as I've heard, most higher ups operate from inside of the prison system. A gangs a gang, I don't really think their origins are very different from another.

`gangs don't differentiate, you're either in or out. if your in, then your in for life. origin in the hood start with their up bringing, cuz the streets don't as i said "differentiate". i know many bloods that are in their 40's, 50's that have kids belonging. my n'hood is pretty much quite but go down the street a couple of blocks & you hear them 9's going off. there's death in the streets every night here. death doesn't differentiate either.

`sounds like you know a lot about the gang life.. Nothing cool about being in gangs..

Most gang members are exposed to gangs at a young age. The money and respect that older gang members earn impresses them. They may begin hanging around gang members, finding out who is important and learning what the gang does. This can happen as early as age 10 or 11. Gangs intentionally recruit children and use them to carry weapons and drugs or commit other crimes because they tend to attract less attention from police. If caught they serve shorter sentences in juvenile detention centers than an adult gang member would serve in prison.

When a new member joins a gang, he must usually go through an initiation. Initiations don't usually involve elaborate ceremonies or formalities, but the initiate will have to endure certain rites. The most common is "jumping in," a beating issued by all the gang members. Gangs that accept female gang members sometimes them as their initiation. Instead of a "jumping in," or sometimes following it, the new gang member must participate in a mission. This can be anything from stealing a car to engaging in a firefight with a rival gang. Some gangs don't consider anyone a full member until they have shot or killed someone. Getting a tattoo with gang symbols may be another part of the initiation.

Daily gang life is generally not very exciting. Gang members sleep late, sit around the neighborhood, drink and do drugs and possibly go to a meeting place in the evening, such as a pool hall or roller rink. They may work a street corner selling drugs or commit petty crimes like vandalism or theft. The notion of respect drives gang life almost completely, and for many gang members, gaining respect means committing violent crimes. While it is relatively rare compared to their other activities, gangs do assault, shoot and assassinate people for money, turf, pride or revenge.
