To Kill an American
You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.
So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is. So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)
'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An Ame rican may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.
An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.
The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness..
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.
When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!
As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan .
The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.
Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

`I thought so. I know we have our fare share..more so now a days..of issues. I remember way back when I was 20 years old I met some people from Africa. I was invited to a dinner they were having. I thought at that time this country was a bad place and terribly unfair. They brought me back to reality. They told me that yes..many things here are unfair just like in a lot of places. However, you don't get executed by your government for standing up for your rights. If you wish, you have a court of law and law makers to change things that are not fair. Is it hard to do? Yes it is. BUT..point being we have it in place to use should we wish to fight for change.
Years later I remember this big deal over two widows fighting for the right to have the pentacle on their dead husbands grave stones. Many have viewed my holy symbol as a sign of evil and of course, Hollywood does not help at all. It took these women ten years and a lot of work to force the VFW to accept and approve our holy sign as another symbol that is legitimately sacred. I am happy to say that a couple of years ago this was accomplished. Now, we pagans who are terribly discriminated against and even killed have our rightful place. We live, serve and die too.
Are things fair..is life ever fair..hell no. Does it take a lot of work and backing to accomplish change..absolutely. BUT..change is possible and we do have the forum here to do it.
We are not shot dead in our homes by the Gestapo for that..we don't disappear forever for that.

Root of prosperity found in the declaration of independance? Seems to be a highly biased piece of writing if you ask me.

That's pretty words because the goal the writer wished to reach was good but.... Excess is never good for compliments like for critics.

An American can be nowaday.....

The Americans were before....

Liberty of beliefs is not so free. Christian, Jewish, Muslim or Buddist for the exotic side don't meet any problems but what about the others beliefs ? Many testimonies say it's not so easy to live them quietly even in America.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

Many American peoples are certainly generous but the America... ?!Historically when you look at the ways used and the reasons why you're tempted to mostly use "personal conviction" or "own interest" than strict "generosity".
The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed.
Someone like you Merinass who seems to have knowledges in history should agree such phrase sound like a "commercial" and is far of the real truth.
These in fact are the people who built America.
The new America of the "New World" so interesting for few ones, last chance for many others and sadly at the expense of definitly too many human beings.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. Beautiful words but just cr*ps and bull*its at the end. To make comparisons between things not comparable is a non sense !
I have nothing against America. I could have the same reaction if the same was said about my own Country.
Our both Countries are among the better to live in but in spite of that, politic is politic and money is money. No angels in such matters
If someone want to convince he must say the truth. Excess leads to reject !

All writings are biased. from the perspective of the british that came to the USA..it is just that. This country isn't perfect..but you do have a leg to stand on. I think having a president that is mixed race proves that. This country isn't perfect..but where else on this planet can you think of that you can fight for changes and get it? No one said it is easy..but it can be done.
I remember in my early 20's talking to some people from Africa..they pointed out to me the fact that while things aren't fasir and equal like we think they should be we are not gunned down in our homes execution style for speaking out about it. We do have a legal leg to stand on. It takes a lot of persistance and work..but look at the African American community..they are proof positive it can be done.
