GREENCARD MARRIAGES ?

I have noticed from time to time individuals on NAP who want to get married because they want to live in the United States.

Marriages entered into for the sole reason to obtain a greencard is illegal according to INS law. In order to be eligible for Greencard status a marriage must be entered to for love, not to circumnavigate immigration laws which is punishable if proven.
There are rigorous INS standards for which a marriage between a U.S. Citizen and an Alien must meet before a Permanent Alien Status (GreenCard) will be issued.First after providing specific historical evidence regarding your relationship you are granted "Temporary Status" and after a two year waiting period "Permanent Status" is granted unless specific circumstances permit Permanent status to be granted, criteria will vary according to each situation.
You may still receive a Greencard even if your marriage fails if you can prove the marriage was entered into in "Good Faith" and was not a "sham" marriage as the 9th Circut Court of Appeals stated that Quote: "The INS is not in the business of making sure that marriages between a U.S. Citizen and an Alien was more successful than a marriage between two U.S. Citizens".

For reasons of full disclosure I married a man from another country, from the 5 year marriage we had a son who is now 14, we were too busy to apply right away and were granted Permanent Status with out the 2 year waiting period, he was already in the U.S. and entered the country legally, otherwise known as through the"big door". Sadly the marriage did not last.

OK HERE IS THE QUESTION TO AVOID FUTURE CONFUSION.
Now that you know a little bit about Immigration Marriage Law, would you marry a person knowing beforehand they only want to live in the U.S, even If all outward signs made you feel that the person loved you?
Would you wonder if those feelings were real and worry about being left at the end of the two year waiting period?

It is unfortunate that only one person ( you )had anything of importance to say regarding a question that is of a serious nature and can have a great effect both good or bad on a persons life regardless of the outcome.
