Clearly, I am out of balance and have only been guided by my own compass. I am not here to impress anyone, or find a date. Just for the friends I enjoy "batting" with and maybe lend and encouraging word when I can. Maybe someone can identify with this, maybe not. Maybe I just need to find a different compass. Thanks for being a friend!
Well we all have days when we walk out of step. Hey it evens happens to me, I know you find that hard to believe! (just kidding)

I was thinking the same thing; EXTREMELY unrealistic. I am a pretty fit native woman, but judging from the sizes of my aunts, uncles and general family, I know truly what my future holds, lol.
I agree with the idea of how a native man should look. Apparently like an Italian, eh? It does not seem that film-makers or directors and especially not casting directors take into account that there are a bazillion tribes in North and South America alone--why in the world would they ALL look exactly alike?
Of course we don't all look alike. I definitely do not have the stereotypical native look, but that stereotype seems to be as a result of the general populous thinking that all natives in the world look like Lakota, Sioux and other mid-western natives. And even in John Wayne movies, Italians ALWAYS played natives, haha.
Weird world...
People never assume I am native. What I get the most is Half-asian, Half-white, Spanish (from Spain), or Hawaiian. Though, if I tell people I am native, they're all "Oh yeah, I totally knew that and could tell."
Pfft...
It's all relative anyway! I don't mind representing all the other races out there.

I have been well happy to read your post because effectively the romantic vision of "Indian" American's peoples is very limited in Europe what is not so important but it's true that the first picture which comes inside our mind is the one of the Lakota "Sioux" (Keep some doubt about the word Sioux) or the Iroquois, or the Apaches. That comes from movies but anybody with a piece of reflection can admit that the America being a very big Continent, it's impossible for peoples to be the same everywhere in America ?
You can call me European but don't tell me I'm like Italians, Spanishs, Germans, etc... etc... on pain to hurt my own love ! That's the same !
I can understand many things but it's impossible for me to feel the things like if I was personally concerned by the pictures associated with the Native identity. Where I'm sure we don't feel the same is about the old westerns movies. I don't know what idea the movies makers of these passed times wished to transmit but if it was to show the "Indian" like some crual "wilds" I can tell you that they made a hudge mistake because these movies get out between 1950 an 1970 so just few years after the German invasion in France.
Every child in France looked at the "Indians" like peoples fighting for defend their closes and family's members from the invaders... That one of the reason why there is a lot of love for the Native peoples still today in my Country.
The price to pay is the "ideal" view European peoples are tempted to feel about Native peoples. There is no real soluce for that but it's enough simple in fact. When you meet someone asking for one Indian Name for its new pet or someone asking for a man or a woman with "Indian look", just joke and laught or just keep the silence...
Friendly

I am glad to know that the Natives are looked upon respectfully where you come from. I cannot say the same about all places in the U.S., particularly. Especially on the East Coast there is a lot of subjugation towards the Natives, still, to this day. Though there are many redeemable people within all races and not all people from the east coast do this and even more so, not all people encompassing particular states on the East Coast do this. There seems to be plenty of diversity these days, but I guess what I am trying to say is that there is more subjugation and racism than there should be.
I hope that you continue to view the Natives in such a light. Though I grew up on a reservation, it was an East Coast one that did not have as much of our culture as, say, a mid-western reservation. When I was child, I always longed for the old ways. I still do now and try to encorporate them into my life as much as possible.
Thank you so much for the kind words
Blessings on your home,
Ashe

`Al was definitely a good looking guy in his youth and much like a fine white dessert wine, he has grown much better and sweeter with age. His intensity, I think, is what is attractive about him. hahaha :D

`South Italian could play some Natives roles in movies ?!!!
Let me reflect a little.... I don't know but I'm at least sure of something : the necessary complete depilation would made of them some sore red skins for a while !
Aïe !
