`Well it looks like there's no problem getting people to chat on the message board ....why not transfer the people who replied to the chat rooms and there you have it people in the chat rooms. Problem solved now everyone to the chat rooms!

its the chat client they use, its either flash based or java based, but anyway you cut it, the problem is in the chat client, not the people...sometimes it takes so long to load its not even worth waiting, i even tried waiting for an hour and that did no good...so its software, not that people are not interested...

The chat client uses Flash.

The chat client will alert you if you do not have the correct (ie. most current version of Flash necessary for chat to work), and prompt you to download the most current version.

Once you have the correct version of Flash in your browser, the chat client will open within a VERY short time, despite what was written above. We are not sure what happened in that situation, but it is not typical.

Due to the large number of sites in our network, what you are likely to see is that most people congregate within the Lobby, which is a shared room across all sites in the network.

Members can then move to specific site rooms, or they can open up private chat if they would like.

While it is true that individual chatrooms are hit and miss with regards to activity, there are usually always people within the Lobby.

As a reminder, as it says on the CHAT page, the Lobby is shared by a wildly divergent group of people representing the wildly divergent sites within our network...so don't be surprised to find people you love, hate, and love to hate.

PS. Chat only works in Flash enabled browsers, so do not expect to be able to use chat within mobile devices.

There has been difficulty in getting people to interact in the site specific chatroom because people are on at different times and many pop-in, look around and if no one is there, they leave...so no 'critical mass' evolves.

There tends to be more activity within the Network Wide Chat area, but it suffers from the same issue, although there is more activity than in individual site specific chatrooms.

The 'Docked' chat at the bottom of your browser can show you when there is activity in specific Group Rooms...or just when people make themselves available for chat.

With regards to the issue mentioned here where you have a photo of yourself, but you are seeing the 'You need a Chat photo' message, we looked at your account and we do not see a photo assigned to Chat specifically (which is in the photo dropdown list options...and which is outlined within the photo upload instructions area).

Since there are some sites in our 260+ site network that would allow profile photos that would not be appropriate in chat, we cannot 'default' to that option. Every member must upload a photo (even if it is the same as your profile photo, provided it is an appropriate image) and assign it specifically for use in the Chatrooms.

Hopefully that helps to address the issues of lack of activity in chat, which you can see people complaining about forever...and the issue related to your personal chatroom issue.
