But you know what is really cool though, is when a child exhibits behavior like he/she is much, much older than he/she really is. They have wisdom and understanding far beyond their years. Sometimes this means that this child's soul development will be complete after the current lifetime is over. It's like a signal for the tiospaye (extended family) to put forth extra effort to make sure it learns from difficulty to enjoy blessings. It's really interesting to witness one of those kind of children. Sometimes they have really interesting stories to tell.

`Yes, sometimes their stories verify really ancient Lakota Star Knowledge information. And you wonder how did they know, especially when they have not even learned to read or write yet.

`Oh my! That sounds really exciting and scary at the same time!

It is! And when you bring them around the ceremonies, they speak a really old form of the Lakota language. And that is when it really gets interesting!

In the Lakota ceremony called "Wiwanyag Wacipi" or "Sun Dance", the day before this ceremony begins is called "Tree Day". And a virgin girl is chosen to select the tree for this ceremony, and then she has to do certain things to this tree. I am not going to say what that is, because that is sacred.

Usually the medicine man has already pre-selected the tree, and then he instructs the girl on what to do. So she is just going through the motions.

Well at this ceremony I attended, the girl who was chosen was about 6 years old. And I know her personally, as she is a close relative of mine. Her parents do not speak Lakota, and they did not know much about our ways. And when the medicine man was going to give her instruction on what to do before this "tree"-ceremony was to be conducted, the girl said to him, "No, you don't have to say anything to me."

The medicine man looked at her strange and then he realized she was one of these children. So when the singers started to sing the songs, she knew exactly what to do, and she did everything the ancient way, which is missing in a lot of Sun Dances of today. She even knew which tree that the medicine man had pre-selected earlier before she and her family arrived at this location.

She just walked right up to that tree, and did what she was to do, and she did it all while speaking a very old form of the Lakota language. That shocked her parents to hear her speak like that, especially when neither one of them could speak Lakota.

After the tree was set in the sacred circle of this ceremony, she already knew how to handle the Pipe and how to smoke it.

It was so cool to witness that! I consider that a lucky day to have witnessed one of these "ancient" children

Yes, a lot of people, especially the dancers really "teared up" on that day That was a REALLY good day! This ceremony is very sacred and one has to really be humble during the whole experience, because it is also a difficult ceremony. So when the dancers knew this "ancient child" was going to be a part of their experience, it psyched them up in a good way, as well

Thank you for sharing such wonderful stories about your knowledge and experiences, Chosnazzy. People read about things similar to that in the christian and catholic bibles, and books from other religions, as well. But all of that does not seem to happen anymore.

Meanwhile, in the Lakota World of Spirituality, these sacred things are happening everyday without the need for any type of a "bible"!
