I just watched a movie about a man and his dog. It brought to mind my friend Midnight.

I first met him in the middle of the night. I was living in a trailer and one night I heard a noise at the front door. I looked out the window of the door and did not see anyone. So I thought, I wonder what that was. After a few minutes I heard it again and again there was no one there. Then I thought that it might be the neighborhood kids acting up. The noise came again and so I threw open the door and was going to confont who ever was there.

And there he stood, he was a black cat and we looked at each other and I thought , I wonder what this is about. So I stood back and left the door open. He looked around for a while and I said, " Are you coming in or what?" So, he came in and looked all through my trailer. Then he jumped on my couch and made himself at home.

So we began a relationship. When he wanted to go out he would scratch at the door and the same when he came home. I was living on food provided by the the Indian Center and we had to live on what I got. Some of the cans did not have labels on them and we ate what was in the can. I was suprised when some days he would bring my a dead bird and lay it at my feet.

Then one day he scratched at the door and as I opened it he stood at the door and looked at me for a long time. Then I knew that our relationship had come to an end. With one last look and a swish of his tail he vanished into the night. It occured that we met at midnight and he left at midnight. But I undersood him because we were alike , we were used to brief relationships and I felt comfortable that he would spend some time with me. I guess that he felt that he could not live on canned food.

I hope that he had a good life and knew that he had made a friend.

`Wow That is so heart felt. It make's a person wish that they can find a friend in the human race with the ability to make one feel as comfortable as he made you feel. Such a peaceful but funny end.
