Apparently you pay about $100 and Nat. Geo sends you a packet with some cotton swabs. You swab the inside of your cheeks and send it back. In return, you should receive information about your Ancestors and where they came from! Isnt this interesting?
Would you be interested in doing it? I know I'm really thinking about it.
More information can be found here (removed)
"Your results will reveal your deep ancestry along a single line of direct descent (paternal or maternal) and show the migration paths they followed thousands of years ago. Your results will also place you on a particular branch of the human family tree. Some anthropological stories are more detailed than others, depending upon the lineage you belong to. For example, if you are of African descent, your results will show the initial movements of your ancestors on the African continent, but will not reflect most of the migrations that have occurred within the past 10,000 years. Your individual results may confirm your expectations of what you believe your deep ancestry to be, or you may be surprised to learn a new story about your genetic background."

`I'd love 2 know what my DNA has 2 say, altho I dont have 100 bucks 2 devote 2 it, at the moment. And I do kind of worry about having that kind of info stored away in somebodys file cabinet somewhere. Who knows what kind of nefarious purposes it could b used 4? we r entering the age of bioweapons and genetic engineering, after all...

`My brother paid the money and swabbed his cheeks. The results said that our anscestors came from Turkey before settling in northern Europe. I asked him why he paid all that money to figure that out when all he had to do was look in the mirror.

`Oh thank you for this information, Ive been looking for it. I remember seeing a small exibition in a building in downtown DC, they were mapping peoples genitics threw out the United States & world wide . The exibit Offered the applications for the kit which I lost when I moved. Again I thank you for the information its well worth the $100.00, which I must say is way cheaper that what other DNA testing coasts.

`Had my DNA done with N.G. Found my haplogroup was H, Western European, no surprises there. My grandparents came from Ireland and Sweden. Family Tree does the testing for the Genograpic Project and you can get upgrades from them to check for more markers. They also, if you choose, will send you emails with matches of those with the same markers.
