Let's talk about abuse against native american women. I have a question. How many of you women out there have been abused or know someone who is. I bet that every single one of you on here have been abused, are being abused, or know someone who was or is. Violence against women is that common, especially on reservations. Did you know that native american women are more likely than any other race to be se---lly assaulted and physically abused? I myself have been abused for three years. My mother was abused.
I have my own ideas as to why it's so common here, but I'll leave that for a later time. If anyone would like to share their personal experiences or directly witnessed it themselves, please share. Offer your opinions about it. How can it be stopped? What should happen to the abusers? What can we do to help the victims? Why do you think they do what they do? Can it ever be stopped?
In college, I did a little study. I interviewed and surveyed 70 women at my school, asking them everything about abuse, including if they've ever been a victim. 66 out of 70 said yes to having been or were in an abusive relationship. Those who were not, were, not surprisingly, well to do white women who went to our tribal college. Almost 59 percent were enrolled members and rest being descendants of native americans.
